BLOUNTVILLE (AP) — The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation says a man was fatally shot by deputies after firing at them during a high speed chase.
A report from the bureau says 30-year-old Attilio Gilmartin was fatally shot on Tuesday by Sullivan County deputies and a Bluff City police officer.
The report says deputies tried to pull Gilmartin over during a traffic stop but he fled from authorities, shooting at them during the chase.
It says Gilmartin eventually stopped driving, exited his vehicle and shot at deputies again. The report says authorities returned fire and fatally shot Gilmartin.
A criminal history report says arrest warrants were filed against Gilmartin last month for driving with a revoked license, evading arrest, reckless endangerment and failing to appear on previous charges.
