State Senator Jon Lundberg (R-Bristol) and Representatives Timothy Hill (R-Blountville) and John Holsclaw (R-Elizabethton) announced today that Carter County has been awarded a $50,000 ThreeStar Grant from the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development (TNECD). ThreeStar programs focus on best practices in five key community areas including jobs and economic development, fiscal strength and efficient government, public safety, health, education and workforce development.

“The health and quality of life of our residents are some of my main priorities,” said Sen. Lundberg. “I am very pleased that our Department of Economic and Community Development is supporting programs and initiatives that will improve outcomes within our local community.

“It was an honor to support our leaders in their efforts to secure this important funding and I look forward to seeing the many ways this grant will benefit the people of Carter County.”

“I have always fought to help provide vital resources and create more opportunities for our citizens,” said Rep. Hill. “It was a pleasure working with our local leaders to help secure this important funding from our Department of Economic and Community Development because it will support the employment desires of our residents in Carter County.”

“The Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development’s strong commitment to Carter County is welcoming news for our citizens,” said Rep. Holsclaw. “This important grant funding will help strengthen our local economy and provide more opportunities for Carter County residents through programs and initiatives. I enjoyed working with our local officials in securing this funding, and I look forward to continuing our work to meet the needs of all of our communities.”

Certification in the ThreeStar program is based on annual documentation of local activity, evaluation and biennial participation in coordinated local stakeholder goal and activity planning.

Participating counties, and cities in these counties, will be eligible for a four percent discount for eligible projects on both the business development and community development ability-to-pay calculations (Community Development Block Grants CDBG and FastTrack) each year the county fulfills the requirements of the ThreeStar program. CDBG also provides a bonus based on ThreeStar participation up to $25,000. Carter County and other selected counties will participate in the TNECD Governor’s Convention on October 25 where they will be recognized.
