Deborah Ward, 70, of Hampton, Tenn., passed away on Sunday, September 29, 2019, at Life Care Center of Elizabethton.
Deborah was born in Atlanta, Ga., to the late Charles and Ruth Jones Carnes.
Deborah had worked as a paralegal and was a member of Hampton First Christian Church. She had also sold real estate in Asheville, N.C., and had spent three years in Africa. Deborah enjoyed gardening, cooking, spending time with her grandchildren, her pets, traveling, shopping and loved to find a bargain.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, James “Denny” Ward, of the home; two daughters, Mikaela Ladd of Pendergrass, Ga., and Angela Sawyer of Oxford, Ga.; a stepson, Matthew Ward of Charlotte, N.C.; her grandchildren, Jay Dailey, Jessica Voigt, Jared Voigt, Joshua Sawyer and Jacob Voigt; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Marty Carnes of St. Simon’s Island, Ga., Cathy Compton of Asheville, N.C., and Carol Lang of Hilton Head, S.C.; and one brother, Bill Carnes of Clearwater, Fla. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to celebrate the life of Deborah Ward will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 2, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Mr. Dwayne Calhoun, minister, officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 1 until 2 p.m. Wednesday, prior to the service. The graveside service will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Life Care Center of Elizabethton and Avalon Hospice for the loving care given to Mrs. Ward during her illness. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to the Elizabethton/Carter County Humane Society, 135 Sycamore Shoals Drive, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
