JOHNSON CITY — East Tennessee State University’s Tipton Gallery will display Meg Roussos’s Master of Fine Arts Exhibition through Oct. 11 this fall.
Titled “Blaze,” Roussos’s artistic display features photographic and video graphic pieces that capture nature, human interaction in nature and personal experiences within nature, or in Roussos’s words, “How to walk and experience the landscape. It’s all built around how we interact without doors and walking.”
Roussos drew inspiration for her work from completing the Triple Crown of Hiking, the three major long-distance hiking trails in the U.S that include the Pacific Crest Trail, the Appalachian Trail and the Continental Divide Trail, which add up to approximately 8,000 miles in length. “It’s definitely not easy, physically or mentally. You do lose things,” she says.
Roussos is an Ohio native who earned a bachelor of science in photojournalism from Ohio University in 2013 before hiking the Triple Crown.
Now, Roussos is completing her M.F.A. in studio art and plans to work as a studio manager in the state of Washington after finishing school at ETSU.
A reception for Roussos’s work will be held on Friday, Oct. 4, from 6-8 p.m. at the Tipton Gallery located on 126 Spring Street in downtown Johnson City.
The Tipton Gallery is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4-6 p.m., during First Friday receptions and by appointment. The exhibit and reception are free and open to the public.
