Cheryl A. Knott, 73, Elizabethton, passed away at her home on Sunday, November 3, 2019. She was the beloved wife of Wayne Knott.
Cheryl was born in Waterbury, Conn., on December 17, 1945, the daughter of the late Thomas C. and Mary E. (Erwin) Begley. She was a graduate of Scared Heart High School and received her RN Degree at Naugatuck Valley Community College. Cheryl worked for more than 50 years as a nurse. She was greatly respected by her colleagues and was known for being a passionate advocate for her patients and her coworkers. She loved visiting new places and spent her last years traveling throughout Europe, New Zealand and Australia, including the famous Sydney Opera House which had been a lifelong dream. In addition to that, she and the love of her life Wayne visited 28 of the 50 states in their motor home.
Cheryl treasured family and friendship above all else. She never missed an opportunity to help those she loved and cared for. She touched so many people’s hearts. Everyone who knew Cheryl will remember her quick wit, her sarcastic sense of humor, her laugh and the fierce protectiveness she showed towards those she knew and loved.
In addition to her husband of four years, Cheryl is survived by her daughter, Shannon Jacovino, Shannon’s partner, Bill Seedman and her cherished granddaughter, Amalia Seedman, who was the greatest joy of her life. In addition to that she leaves her sisters, Eleanor Hada of Hawaii and Barbara Begley of Plymouth, Conn., and her sister-in-law, Judith Begley of Watertown, Conn. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and her family in New Zealand, Elaine and Brian (Wayne’s parents), brother-in-law, Gary and sister-in-law, Wendy; her stepchildren, Candy, Jody and Jason; and the grandchildren.
She was preceded by her sisters, Delores Zanavich and Joan Breton, and her dear brother, Thomas Begley.
Services for Cheryl will be held at the following places: the Elizabethton Elks Lodge 1847, 1000 N. Sycamore Street, Elizabethton, TN 37643 on Thursday, Nov. 14, at 4 p.m.; and Saint Thomas Church, 1 E. Main Street, Thomaston, CT 06787, on Tuesday, Nov. 19, at 10 a.m.
Calling hours will be on Monday evening between 4 and 7 p.m. at Lyons Funeral Home, 46 High Street, Thomaston, CT 06787. In lieu of flowers, donations in Cheryl’s memory can be made to The Elks National Foundation, 2750 North Lake View Avenue, Chicago, IL 60614-2256.
