Declawing the Panthers… Shields, Mathena lead TAD to spanking of Panthers 45-33

It was a classic game of hooking, slicing and dicing for the T.A. Dugger Jr. Lady Cyclones on Monday night when they played host to the Church Hill Lady Panthers.

With Michelle Shields doing the slicing and dicing making the Lady Panther defense look lost at times while Marlee Mathena was working the paint with a sweet baby hook shot to lead the Jr. Lady Cyclones to a 45-33 win.

Shields got the Jr. Lady Cyclones out on the right foot as she scored nine of the 15 first-quarter points for TAD.

Kayelyn Nave also scored four in the period to give Dugger a 15-7 lead at the first stop.

The second period saw a nip and tuck six minutes of action as the Jr. Lady Cyclones managed to take the period 12-10 and extend the lead to 27-17 at the intermission.

Shields scored five and Mathena four in the period to keep the pressure on the Jr. Lady Panthers.

TAD kept the pressure on in the third period working to a 12-9 edge at the third stop.

Mathena added four more to her total while Mollie Johnson dropped in three points to give TAD a 39-26 advantage heading into the final six minutes of play.

The Jr. Lady Cyclones closed out the fourth period scoring six points while Church Hill finally managed to win a period totaling seven points.

Shields finished the game with 18 points to lead the Jr. Lady Cyclones while Mathena was in double digits with 12 points.

Johnson finished with seven points in the contest for TAD with Nave collecting five points. 

Abbie Crigger (2) and Marley Lewis (1) closed out the books for the Jr. Lady Cyclones.

Veda Barton led all scorers in the game with 19 points to lead Church Hill. Emilee Mailoux added five points for the Jr. Lady Panthers.
