JOHNSON CITY — On Thursday, Dec. 5, at 7 p.m., the East Tennessee State University Pre-College will perform a fall semester Gala Concert in Mathes Hall, room 107, on the main campus.
Admission is free and open to the public; donations will be accepted.
The Pre-College Gala Concert displays the highlights of its students work and aims to inspire and lift the spirits of its audience in the last month of 2019. Students will be able to perform one or two pieces of music in the concert and share what they have learned.
“It’s basically a celebration of their hard work during the past semester,” says Dr. Esther Park, director of the Pre-College program and an assistant professor of piano in the ETSU Department of Music
The program was established in 2016 and offers children from grades pre-K through 12 lessons in vocals, instruments, choir, chamber music and performing in two orchestras. The Pre-College program ultimately aims to interest students in music and teach them about it.
Children who are interested in a career in music are prepared for college while some lessons offer dual credit to high school students before college.
“It will be a fun show,” Park says. “Even my college students are inspired by what these youngsters are able to do. If you need encouragement, if you need some pick-me-up, come. Join the celebration of these young, very talented people.”
