With Elizabethton getting ready to take on Springfield for the BlueCross Bowl Championship today (Saturday), Sports Editor Ivan Sanders caught up to some local fans about how much a state title would mean to the community in a throwback Man on the Street question.
Brad Kelley
Alumnus of Elizabethton and former Cyclone football player.
“I just think that it’s something that we have always worked for and we have never seen in our decades and I just think its going to be worth the experience just to get to go. We haven’t been since the TSSAA reorganized itself.”
Prediction: 35-14 Elizabethton.
Sophia Paulson, Carlee Sullins, and Lauren Mallasch
“I think it would be the world for us to be able to boost our athletic program,” said group spokesperson Carlee Sullins. “Just not football, but for our coming seasons this year in basketball and all our other great sports in the spring. I think it would really give them a drive to win a state championship in Murfreesboro as well.”
Prediction: Everyone picked Elizabethton with Carlee picking a 35-14 score.
Laura Cowan
Class of 1979 alumnus.
“It would mean not only for Elizabethton City but for the county schools as well it would mean the world because those kids have played their heart out.
“I just know that beyond a shadow of a doubt that we are going to win.”
Prediction: “Score wise I don’t know that much about Springfield I just know they are 11-3 but I just see the Cyclones on top.”
Vicki Johnson
“This community has been amazing how the community has rallied around the team and been so excited.
“We have friends from Happy Valley and Hampton and they are all excited. It has been a great year.
“My son is Conner Johnson and they have been up every morning before school lifting weights and it’s just so exciting to see all that pay off.
Vicki also was complimentary of the ‘Betsy Band, the coaches, cheerleaders, and everyone associated with the program.
Prediction: 36-10 Cyclone for sure. Go Cyclones!!
Daniel Greene
“It would mean a lot. The community is behind this team and the team has worked so hard this year the last few years really to get to this point.
“Its really good to see all the hard work paying off. Parker (Hughes) is one of a kind and excels at everything he does and I couldn’t be more proud of him.”
Prediction: Elizabethton by four touchdowns.
Danny Hawks
“It would be huge. I have been waiting for this for years. It would be great. We have supported them ever since they started so it would be great.”
Prediction: Elizabethton by a touchdown.
