COSBY – The Elizabethton Lady Cyclones were hoping to throw a little bit more than snow on the Cosby Lady Eagles on Tuesday as they made the trip down I-81 toward the Knoxville corridor hoping to beat the snow and the Lady Eagles.
Coach Lucas Andrews team applied relentless defense and an up-tempo pace to run the Lady Eagles out of their own gym taking a 56-30 win.
While the defense was playing stingy, the Lady Cyclone defense managed to get three ladies in double-figures with freshman Lina Lyon leading the charge with 15 points in the contest.
Elizabethton also picked 14 points up from Morgan Headrick (6-of-8 free throws) and 11 points off the hand of Kaylen Shell.
Five other Lady Cyclones reached the scoring ledger as senior Kelsie Winters dropped two treys for six points in the contest and McKendra Norris and Torrie Roberts finding the bottom of the nylon from three-point range for three points apiece.
Renna Lane and Cheyenne VanHuss contributed with two points apiece in the win as well.
Elizabethton jumped out front 21-12 at the end of the first horn and from there threw the clamps on Cosby defensively allowing 10, six, and two over the next three quarters.
Bralyn McGaha led all scorers in the game with 16 points in the defeat. Kinley Coggins collected five points while Leia Grant and Tessa McGaha knocked down four points each.
Elizabethton plays their first conference game Friday night when they play host to the Sullivan Central Cougars with games for the girls being played at 4 pm and 6:30 pm.
