The Unaka Rangers took a pair of basketball contests from Rockwood over the weekend. Coach Kenneth Chambers Lady Rangers won in convincing fashion shutting Rockwood down defensively while Coach Aaron Dugger’s Rangers scrapped and fought their way to a three-point win.
In girls’ play, the Lady Rangers had a big first quarter jumping all over Rockwood to forge a 17-5 lead at the end of the first quarter and never looked back.
The Lady Rangers didn’t allow Rockwood to score more than seven points in any of the four quarters of action while scoring in double figures in three of the four quarters as a team.
Lyndie Ramsey led all scorers in the contest with a game-high 22 points. Jada Whitehead, KiKi Forney, and Mailey Guy knocked down five points apiece in the win.
Macy Ensor (4), Madison Rice (4), Tara Whitehead (3), Zoie Grindstaff (2), Natalie Stout (2), and Veronica Holly (2) added to the win as 10 Lady Rangers hit the scoring column.
The Lady Rangers will be participating in the Harriman Christmas Classic December 27-28.
Unaka used the first and third quarters to be a deciding factor in their slim three-point win over Rockwood. The Rangers outscored the home team 13-10 in the first and 11-7 in the third and held off any comeback attempt down the stretch.
Will Sexton led the Rangers with 14 points while Ryan Johnson and Devin Ramsey had a hand in the win with nine and eight points respectively. Johnson recorded all of his points from beyond the arc.
Joseph Slagle (3), Cody Drew (2), and Dylan Whitehead (2) closed out the scoring for the Rangers.
Nate Brackett of Rockwood led all scorers with 25 points in the contest.
The Unaka boys will also participate in the Harriman Christmas Classic December 27-28.
