Ann Edwards Smith Adkins

Ann Edwards Smith Adkins, 82, of Hampton, passed away Sunday, January 5, 2020, at NHC Health Care, Johnson City.
A native of Greene County, she was a daughter of the late Thomas G. and Byrdie Joanna Ramsey Edwards.
Ann was a 1956 graduate of Unicoi County High School. She previously worked at Henredon Furniture, Spruce Pine, N.C., the Carter County School System and the Carter County Sheriff’s Department. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Donald Smith; her second husband, Edgle Adkins; and 13 siblings.
Survivors include her children, Terry Lee Smith and Gary Wayne Smith and wife Kay, all of Hampton, Thomas Eugene Smith and wife Natalie, Elizabethton, and Ritchie Allan Smith, Jacksonville, Fla.; her grandchildren, Misty Seehorn and husband Johnny, Christy Smith, Sarah McBrearty and husband Jamie, Kasey Freier and husband George, Matthew Cody Smith, Daniel Smith and wife Jennifer, Christopher Smith, Alicia Laws, Jessica Smith and Heather Nicole Smith; 11 great-grandchildren; one brother, Hartsell Edwards and wife Edith, Knoxville; a sister-in-law, Betty Edwards; and her special friends, Bob and Vickie Watson, Doris Belue, Sherry Watson, Vivian Conard and Cordia “Toots” Berry.
Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday, January 8, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Danny Osborne officiating. Music will be by the Friendship Baptist Church Quartet. Graveside services and interment will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 9, at Roselawn Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Carter County Sheriff’s Department. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the doctors and nurses of Johnson City Internal Medicine and the doctors and nurses of Johnson City Medical Center, the staff of NHC Health Care, Pastor Dwayne Calhoun, Hampton Christian Church, Pastor Randy Johnson and Volunteer Staff, Valley Forge Free Will Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 1:15 p.m. Thursday to go in procession to the cemetery.
