Powell L. Wilson

Powell L. Wilson, 79, of Elizabethton, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 18, 2020, from Life Care Center of Elizabethton. Powell was born in Shell Creek to the late Jack Wilson Sr. and Joda Johnson Wilson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Cynthia Wenzel Wilson; a sister, Celest Day (Roy); and three brothers, Doyle (Janet), Verl (Meria) and Jack Jr.
Powell graduated from Johnson County High School in 1960 and later attended East Tennessee State University. He retired from Great Lakes Research after 30 years of service. He was an active member of Hunter First Baptist Church where he had taught children’s church with his wife for 25 years.
Those left to cherish his memory include two sisters-in-law, Juanita Wilson and Glenna Hardin (Rick); nieces and nephews, Marie Adevoso, Kathy Barrera (Anaya), Michael Wilson, Danny Wilson (Jennifer), Karen Davis (Danny) and Tanya Wilson; great-nieces, Abbie and Leah; and great-nephews, Brandon, Nick, Lukas, Wyeth, Alec, Eli and Ryan. Both Powell and Cynthia considered all of their great-nieces and great-nephews as their “grandchildren.” A special cousin, Janet Johnson, and a dear friend, Marilyn Kimes, also survive.
A service to honor the life of Powell L. Wilson will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 22, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Pastor Steven Nauman Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from noon until 1 p.m. Wednesday, prior to the service. Friends of the family may also call at the residence on Tuesday from 2 until 7 p.m. and after the services on Wednesday. The graveside service will be conducted following the funeral on Wednesday at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Coby Atwell, Doug Graham, David Fletcher, David Honeycutt, Don Frost, Dave Whaley and Jon Barnett. Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Nauman Sr., Paul Hagie, Rick Hardin and Mark Johnson. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Life Care Center of Elizabethton for all the care and support Powell received while in their care.
