It’s not very often that when you play an opponent that you will actually get a little help from them that ultimately leads to a win.

But for the Hampton Lady Bulldogs, that is exactly what happened on Monday evening at Chuckey Doak High School.

With 20 seconds left and Hampton have knocked the ball out of bounds on a Lady Black Knight possession trailing by two points, a Chuckey Doak player inbounded the basketball to her teammate.

That teammate, Sierra Allen, was so wide open when she caught the inbound pass that she went up for a layup and made it easily.

The problem was she put the ball into the Hampton goal giving the Lady Bulldogs two points and pulling the two teams even forcing overtime.

Hampton had trailed by 12 points 41-29 with four minutes left in the contest before making the inspirational run at the end.

In the overtime session, the Lady Bulldogs ran away from the host team for a huge confidence-building victory, 59-45.

It was a nip and tuck game in the first half as Hampton and Chuckey Doak battled to a 24-23 lead for the Lady ‘Dogs at the end of the first half.

Six players scored in the first 16 minutes of play for Hampton led by Destini Milhorn who tickled the twine for six points on two treys.

Skylar Hicks and Nicole Guy totaled five points each in the opening half while Linsey Jenkins and Hannah Collins collected three each.

Hazen Brumitt netted two.

Hampton hit a roadblock in the third period offensively as they could manage only a couple of buckets while Chuckey Doak scored 13 points to take a 36-28 lead heading into the final eight minutes of play.

The Lady Black Knights managed to build that lead to 12 before Hampton made their surge back to give themselves a chance at victory.

In the overtime session, the Lady Bulldogs were sent to the charity stripe 14 times where they converted 11 of those trips while getting another trey from Milhorn and a field goal by Jenkins.

Meanwhile, the Lady Black Knights couldn’t recoup from the shock of allowing Hampton to knot the score and force overtime as Doak managed only two free throws in the overtime period.

Milhorn’s 12 points led all Lady Bulldogs in the scoring column while Hicks finished with nine points.

A trio of Lady ‘Dogs scored eight points including Madi McClain, Collins, and Jenkins.

Brumitt (7), Guy (5), and Sara Orr (2) rounded out the scoring for Hampton.

Earendo Davis led the Lady Black Knights with a game-high 19 points. Sierra Jaynes finished with 12.
