Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park in Elizabethton will once again host its annual Fiber Fair the weekend of March 14 and 15.
The fiber fair is presented by the Overmountain Weavers Guild from the Exchange Place in Kingsport. Part of the Guild’s mission is to keep alive the time-honored skills of the fiber arts.
The fiber fair will feature some of the most talented fiber artists in the region, who will come together to share their talents and their wares. Weavers will throw their shuttles, spinners will ply their yarns, and botanists will transform tough plant stalks into silky fibers.
Visitors will be invited to try their hand at a loom or a spinning wheel and knitters and crocheters will answer questions and give helpful hints about their craft. Hands-on opportunities for children will also be available.
In addition, many area vendors will be selling fine hand-made items throughout the event. Examples of items that will be for sale include natural yarns, handwoven items, beautiful jewelry, hand-made scarves, house-wares, mittens and hats, goat milk soap, and related products, and roving.
For visitors interested in learning to weave, guild members will offer a chance to sign up for beginning weaving classes during August 2020. A sign-up sheet will be available at the information desk at the fiber festival.
Admission is free and all are welcome.
