Taste of Carter County: Tailgate Edition A fundraising event that is sure to be fun and delicious

The Carter County Drug Prevention Coalition is excited to present, Taste of Carter County: Tailgate Edition. During this event, attendees will sample tastings from more than a dozen local eateries! In addition to sampling food, attendees will have an opportunity to bid on items at a silent auction and mingle with State Champion Cyclone football players on the turf where many of them train. In the past, hundreds have attended and the same is expected this year.

This event will take place at Witten Huddle, 103 Smoky Mountain Place, in Elizabethton on February 29 from 6-8 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults in advance, $15 at the door and $5 for children 5-12. Children under 5 are free. Tickets can be purchased on Eventbrite by searching the event name or at any branch of Northeast Community Credit Union. All proceeds will benefit Carter County Drug Prevention to assist in keeping kids alcohol, tobacco and drug free.

Carter County Drug Prevention is an anti-drug coalition designed to bring together diverse organizations, factions or constituencies who agree to work together to achieve a common goal.

What they do: A coalition is required to focus on the following 7 Center for Substance Abuse Prevention Seven Strategies according to the Tennessee Department of Health and Substance Abuse Services and the National Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).

• Provide Information: ex. Presentations in the community, brochures, media campaigns

• Enhance Skills: ex. Workshops, seminars, parenting classes, model programs in schools

• Provide Support: ex. Opportunities for safe activities, mentoring, referrals, youth clubs

• Enhance access and reduce barriers: ex. Increase access to treatment, childcare, housing

• Change consequences: ex. Increasing public recognition for deserved behavior; citations

• Change physical design: ex. Change environment to reduce risk/enhance protection

• Modify/change policies: Formal change in written procedures, bylaws, practices.

CCDP works with the community to identify the needs and barriers in accordance with these seven strategies.
