Betsy Treasures hosted their ribbon cutting event this past weekend downtown.
The store opened last month but celebrated the grand opening this weekend.
Sherie Rowe, owner of the shop, describes it as a consignment store.
“We have vendor space available and we have a little bit of everything,” she said. “We have handcrafted stuff, we have antiques, we have collectibles, glassware. Pretty much you name it, we have it.”
Rowe said the turnout was successful despite bad weather the previous day.
“It went great. We had about 20 to 30 people there,” said Rowe. “It’s been great since the weather kind of broke finally.”
Rowe said opening her own business was the next step from collecting antiques.
“I really, really enjoy antiques and antique glassware,” she said. “So I felt it was a natural progression from collecting. I do purchase things from vendors from time to time.”
Since starting her business downtown, Rowe says she has felt welcomed by the downtown community. Fellow merchants also were in attendance at the ribbon cutting.
“Everyone has been really welcoming and nice,” she said. “Other merchants have really made a point to come in and say hello, so it’s been a really great welcome.”
Rowe said the store will be participating in future downtown events, including the Art Walk and Evenings on Elk.
“I think part of doing business in the downtown area is to be present and open and available, so that’s a really important aspect.”
In addition to Rowe working in her store and participating in upcoming downtown events, she is also the chair for the Carter County Relay for Life, which will be in September. Her store will also be involved in promoting the event.
“I’m really excited for getting Carter County more involved in that and getting the downtown area involved.”

“I’ve always loved Elizabethton. I love the look of the town, everyone is friendly, and I’m really excited for this downtown area because it’s just exploding more every day,” said Rowe.
Betsy Treasures is located in downtown Elizabethton at 547 E. Elk Avenue.
