Nancy Gale Blankenship Broyles, 75, passed away Monday, June 1, 2020, at Hillview Health Center in Elizabethton, Tenn. Mrs. Broyles was born on February 10, 1945, in Elizabethton to the late John R. Blankenship Sr. and Mabel A. Sotherland Blankenship.
Mrs. Broyles was a graduate of Happy Valley High School and East Tennessee State University. She retired after 35 years of teaching for the Carter County School System. She taught at Range Elementary, Gap Creek Elementary, Happy Valley Elementary, and in the Adult Education program. She loved teaching Kindergarten and working with children, but also enjoyed seeing adults get their GED diploma.
Mrs. Broyles was a life-long member of Watauga Point United Methodist Church, and an active member of the United Methodist Women and Order of the Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, John R. Blankenship Jr. and George W. Blankenship Sr., and one sister, Helen Vick Humphreys.
Those left to cherish her memories include her husband, Charles E. “Chuck” Broyles of Johnson City, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 4, at Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services with Rev. Leann “Lu” Crandall and Rev. Mike Berry officiating. The family will receive friends at Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services from noon until 2 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service. Interment services will be conducted immediately following the funeral service at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be George Blankenship, Jacob Blankenship, Chris Hyder, Nathan McInturff, Keith Buck and Cody Buck. Honorary pallbearers will be Randy Humphreys, Joe Cashia, Clive “Brogie” Broyles, Roy Broyles and the members of Watauga Point UMC. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to the Watauga Point United Methodist Youth, 482 Smalling Road, Watauga, TN 37694.
