Norman Eugene Lyons, 81, Elizabethton, passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2020, at his residence.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late James Madison and Lydia Morton Lyons.
Norman was a 1958 graduate of Happy Valley High School. He served in the United States Army. He was a former employee of North American Rayon Corporation, worked as a Millwright, Watauga Industries and Carter County Garage. He loved bluegrass music.
Norman was a member of Upper Gap Creek Free Will Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters.
Survivors include his wife of 59-1/2 years, Pat Baird Lyons; a son and daughter-in-law, Todd Matthew (Niki) Lyons; three granddaughters, Kacey Lyons, Emma (Lucas) Holtsclaw and Sarah Lyons; several nieces and nephews; his special little friend, Nicholas Potter; and his special friend, Dean Burchette.
The graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, June 26, in the Lyons Cemetery with the Rev. Dale Blevins and Mr. Robie Ellis, minister, officiating. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the cemetery at 9:50 a.m. Friday, will be Lucas Holtsclaw, Dean Burchette, Keith Lyons, Marvin Lyons, Montie Lyons and Gary Hinkle. Honorary pallbearers will be Kacey Lyons, Emma Holtsclaw and Sarah Lyons. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the staff of Amedisys Hospice and Dr. Frank Johnson. Friends may register their presence at the funeral home from 2 until 5 p.m. Thursday. Family and friends will assemble at the cemetery at 9:50 a.m. Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Mr. Lyons to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
