Mary Belle Hopson Miller, 71, Hampton, passed away Tuesday, July 7, 2020, at her residence. She was born January 13, 1949 in Elizabethton to James Hopson and the late Melissa “Tootie” Shell Hopson.
Mary attended Hampton High School. She worked at the Carter County Sheriff’s Department for over 25 years. After her retirement she returned to the Sheriff’s Department part time. She was of the Christian Faith.
Mary loved to go fishing and loved to go to auctions.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Miller.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Christina (Jackie) Hodge; two grandchildren, Tasha Crowe and friend Tim Hopson and T.J. Crowe and Rustie Dugger Crowe; four great-grandchildren, Makaylah Crowe, Jaykob Crowe, Nicholas Loveless Jr. and Carl Loveless; her father, James Hopson; two sisters, JoAnn (Jody) Crowe and Janice Hopson and friend Jimmy Brewer; her brother-in-law, Robert (Linda) Miller; one niece, Jordan Emmert; and one nephew, Jonathan Crowe.
The graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 11, in the Perkins Cemetery (Upper Shell Creek), Roan Mountain, with Mr. Scott Fisher, minister, officiating. Active pallbearers will be T.J. Crowe, Johnathan Crowe, Officer Mike Carlock, Constable Myles Cook, Jimmy Brewer and Craig Emmert. Honorary pallbearers will be Jody Crowe, Tim Hopson Jr., Charlie Hopson and Officers of the Carter County Detention Center. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the staff of Amedisys Hospice for the excellent care she received. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Friends may also visit with the family at her residence.
