KNOXVILLE (AP) — A police officer in Tennessee shot and wounded a knife-wielding man suspected of domestic burglary, authorities said.
A woman flagged down Knoxville police officers Saturday afternoon and said she was a victim of a burglary in process, news outlets reported, citing a statement from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
Officers went to the home and found Zacharaih Allen, 36, who was holding a knife and refused to put it down, according to the bureau and Knoxville police.
The encounter escalated and an officer deployed his stun gun, but that didn’t stop Allen and another officer fired his gun, authorities said. Allen was wounded and taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center for treatment. No officers were injured.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is investigating the circumstances of the shooting. No further information was immediately released.
