Diane Cannon, 59, of the Stoney Creek Community of Elizabethton, went home to be with her Lord and family on Thursday, July 16, 2020, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. Diane was born in Elizabethton to the late Wayne J. Hicks and Ruby Irene Grindstaff Hicks.
Diane was a beautiful lady that always projected a positive attitude, was extremely kind and well loved by all who knew her and her entire community. She was very proud to serve in the position of administrative assistant for the Department of Veterans Affairs in Elizabethton, where she loved working and helping the area veterans for over 17 years. Diane also served as administrative assistant at the Carter County Planning and Zoning Commission.
Diane was a lifelong member of Stoney Creek Baptist Church. She was very active in her church and loved her church family. She was an honorary member of Rolling Thunder. Diane loved spending time with her grandson, Wayne, cooking, going to the beach and simply being with her family and friends.
Diane leaves behind to cherish her wonderful memory, her loving and devoted husband of 37 years, Steve Cannon, of the home; her son, Jacob Cannon (Kati); her daughter, Emily Cannon; her grandson, Wayne Cannon; and her brother, Steve Hicks.
A graveside service to celebrate Diane’s life will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 19, in the Grindstaff Cemetery with Pastor Jerry Cornett officiating. Active pallbearers will be Jacob Cannon, Sean Johnson, Mike Taylor, Justin Buckles, Chris Schuettler and Don Hall. Brandon Church will serve as an honorary pallbearer. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 1:50 p.m. Sunday. The family would like to especially thank Aunt Kathy Evans for being there for the family, Mike, Jodi Taylor and Marsha Potter for being Diane’s and Diane’s family’s lifelong friends. As well as Paula Skean and Carol Myers, for their companionship over the years. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
