StarPhoto/Larry N. Souders On Friday evening, I went comet NEOWISE chasing again and decided to head up Roan Mountain with the idea of going up to Carver’s Gap. Instead, I found a pull-off about three-quarters of the way up the mountain at about the 5000 feet level and stopped there instead, saving the hike in. This pull-off offered a wonderful view of the northwest sky, ideal for searching for the comet. Well, the weather didn't cooperate Friday night with a squall line of storms hugging the horizon all night. So the comet chase became a quest for fire. These are a few of the evening’s best lightning shots, and yes, I did manage to capture the comet in a few.
