New York woman charged in opioid-related death in Tennessee

CROSSVILLE (AP) — A New York woman is being held in a Tennessee jail in the death of another woman who had a toxic amount of the dangerous opioid fentanyl in her system.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said Julia Meade, 57, was found dead in her home in Crossville in July 2018, after she traveled to New York to buy drugs.
Investigators found Meade died from fentanyl toxicity. Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that is many times more dangerous than heroin.
Agents arrested Diana Grosso, of Otisville, N.Y., and charged her with second-degree murder in Meade’s death, the TBI said Monday. Investigators said Grosso, 59, sold fentanyl to Meade.
Grosso has been transferred from New York to Tennessee and is being held on $200,000 bail at Cumberland County Jail in Crossville.
A jail official said Grosso has an Aug. 5 hearing. The Associated Press was unable to determine if Grosso has a lawyer.
