From all indications, those who attended this weekend’s first Covered Bridge Jams session at Covered Bridge Park were willing and anxious to do whatever it took to get out in the fresh air and just enjoy being with family and friends while listening to the Shooterband play a smorgasbord of favorites from Country to the Disco era for those who came out on a beautiful Saturday evening.
The music series is presented by the Elizabethton Parks and Recreation Department every Saturday night during the month of August and is sponsored by The Elizabethton Star and WBEJ Radio.
With the increase in positive COVID-19 cases, there was some early concern about having the concerts. However, even though there was a pretty good crowd on hand to enjoy the music, families stayed together and spaced out in a social distance manner and many were wearing face coverings which were encouraged.
It was a mix of young and old along with many bringing their pets out to enjoy a night of music.
The Parks and Recreation Department did a good job of having ample signage requesting those attending to scatter out in a manner to stay safe. Several took advantage of setting up across the river directly in front of the Covered Bridge stage.
Shooterband did a great job of entertaining those who came out and many took advantage to show their footwork as they danced to some of their favorite songs.
Parks and Recreation Director Mike Mains said that he was pleased with the overall outcome of the evening’s event.
“I thought everything worked out pretty well as it seemed everyone was practicing social distancing while others were wearing masks,” said Mains. “I was a little concerned earlier but feel better now seeing how it came together.”
While concessions weren’t sold due to the COVID-19, many could be seen enjoying refreshments that they brought with them which proved to be a good move especially after a hot day with a hot sun beaming down to start the concert before clouds passed over to bring some shade to those in attendance.
It was another example of how people are yearning to get back to some normalcy even in a time when recent local numbers keep climbing.
