Rev. Clarence “Bud” Baumgardner, 72, of Elizabethton, Tenn., passed away Sunday, August 2, 2020, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. He was the son of the late Earl William Baumgardner and Myrtle Carver Baumgardner.
Clarence was of the Free Will Baptist faith and attended East Fairview Free Will Baptist Church. Clarence loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, working in the garden, going to church where he was a member of the Free Will Baptist Association, and reading his Bible.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Lois Faye Potter; brothers, Jackie Joe Baumgardner and Rev. Benny Baumgardner; daughter-in-law, Kathy Baumgardner; and in-laws, Rev. Clarence Wilson Sr. and wife Hattie Markland Wilson.
Those left to cherish his memories include his wife of 47 years, Norma Jean Wilson Baumgardner, of the home; son, John Baumgardner and fiancée Lisa Holt of Elizabethton; five grandchildren, Racheal Jenkins and husband Roy, Nicole Baumgardner, Andrew Baumgardner, Devon Baumgardner and Haley Hannan; seven great-grandchildren, JR Jenkins, Raven Jenkins, Gabriel Teaster, Cayden Hannan, Bladen Price, Faithann Price and Phoenix Price; four sisters, Inamae Baumgardner, Kay Potter, Loretta Shackleford and Kathy Oliver and husband Arnold, all of Elizabethton; and a brother, Terry Baumgardner of Georgia. Many numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
A funeral service to honor the life of Rev. Clarence “Bud” Baumgardner will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, August 6, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home with Carl Grindstaff and Larry Garland, ministers, officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service. The graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, August 7, at Bishop Hollow Family Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Roy Wilson, Roy Jenkins, Ernie Elliott, Dr. Robert Walter and Roy Baumgardner. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Those who will be attending are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Friday to go into procession to the cemetery. The family would like to give a special thanks to the emergency room staff at Sycamore Shoals Hospital, the staff of Carter County Rescue Squad and David Wilson. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Carter County is mandating that all citizens who live in or visit Carter County wear masks in public. In keeping in accordance with this mandate, all visitors to the visitation / funeral service are required to wear a mask / and or facial covering.
