“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.” Revelation 21:4 King James Version (KJV)
On Wednesday, August 5, 2020, our beloved mother, sister and friend, Brenda Hartley, 64, of Elizabethton, was reunited with her beloved husband and parents after winning her courageous battle with COVID-19. Brenda was born in Butler, Tenn., and raised in the Dye Leaf Community of Poga to the late J.D. and Martha Isaacs Guinn. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey “Gomer” Hartley, in 2015.
Brenda was a wonderful housewife and raised three beautiful girls that she was very proud of. She had a special love for her grandchildren as well and always cared for them as often as she could. Brenda was also a very loving sister, devoted wife and loved the Lord tremendously. She was a member of Stone Mountain Baptist Church. Her greatest joy was her family and being with them, but she also enjoyed collecting angel figurines. She will be missed in her community and by her many family, friends and extended family.
Those left to cherish her many memories include her daughters, Norma Garrison and husband Mark, Lori Canter and husband David and Glinia Creasey and husband Doug; her grandchildren, Matthew Canter, Jacob Garrison, Kaylee Garrison, Kristen Creasey and Joshua Creasey; two brothers, Bobby Guinn and Dale Guinn; a sister, Wanda Buckles Carter; a special aunt, Ann Heaton; and a cousin, who was also her best friend, Barbara Vines. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Friends may pay their respects and register their presence at an open visitation at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, between the hours of 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Saturday, August 8. The family will then receive friends from 6 p.m. until the service hour of 7 p.m. Following the visitation a service to celebrate and remember Brenda’s life will begin at 7 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Pastor Howard Estep and Pastor Ronnie Campbell officiating.
