Unaka girls, Elizabethton boys capture matches at EGC

Overcast skies and a milder day temperature-wise made for a perfect day to be on the links for area prep golfers on Wednesday at Elizabethton Golf Course.
In girls’ play, Unaka’s Macy Ensor carded a match-best 49, 13-over-par to lead Unaka to first place in a three-way match with Elizabethton and Hampton.
Ensor’s teammate, Sadie Shoun added a 55 to give the Lady Rangers a team total of 104.
The Lady Cyclones finished four strokes back recording a 108 on the day paced by Gabby Miller’s 53. Ashlynn Guy was two strokes back with a 55 to make up Elizabethton’s total.
Another Lady Cyclone, Katie Lee, finished with a round of 56.
Macy Henry led the Lady Bulldogs with a 57 while Reiley McClain carded a nine-hole total of 59 to make up Hampton’s team score of 116.
In the boys’ match, Elizabethton’s Caleb Tipton fired a one-over-par 37 for nine holes to lead the Cyclones to the match win with a team-best 162.
Kerry Williams added holed out with a 41 while Carson Peters and Padraig Murphy rounded out the top-four card with a 42.
Other Cyclone finishes on the day included Jacob Williams (42), Cooper Tipton (43), and Chase Buck with a 45.
North Greene finished as runner-up by collecting a 174.
The Huskies were led by Aiden Collier with a 36 followed by Joshua Crawford (43), Rickey Compton (45), and Cayden Foulks with a 50.
Hampton finished third in the four-team match with a 196.
Josh Owens and Avery Hill each shot a round of 46 while Parker Henry finished with a 49. Jonah Gable closed out the team scoring with a 55.
Other Bulldogs on the links included Jude Hickman with a 56 while R.J. Tolley withdrew.
The Unaka Rangers rounded out the boys’ match with a 243.
Gavin Sigfried led the Rangers by closing out the nine holes with a 54. Three golfers finished the day with a 63 including Joseph Slagle, Casey Wiggins, and Caleb Hamm.
