Kathy Mae Huffman, 67, of the Biltmore Community of Elizabethton, passed away on Sunday, August 30, 2020, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Marshall and Laura Walker Vaughn and was born on May 6, 1953.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Lewis Vaughn and Jim Vaughn; a sister, Lois Smith; and a great-grandson, Hayden Rains.
Kathy was a member of Watauga Flats Church of God and enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 49 years, Bobby Huffman, of the home; two daughters, Meliny Huffman and fiancée Brian Mock of Elizabethton and Katherine Miller and husband Johnny of Elizabethton; two grandchildren, Kelly Rains of Elizabethton and Samantha Shelton and husband Skylar of Kingsport; four great-grandchildren, Ashlyn Rains and Ethan Rains, both of Elizabethton, Caylinn Shelton and Cain Shelton, both of Kingsport; two sisters, Rebecca Sams and husband Roscoe of Elizabethton and Doris Woods of Louisiana; two brothers, Troy Vaughn of Beckley, W.Va., and Charlie Vaughn and wife Cathy of Jacksonville, Fla.
A service to honor the life of Kathy Mae Huffman will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday, September 1, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services with Pastor Lester Guinn officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., prior to the funeral service. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 2, at the Jones Cemetery on Big Arm Road in Sullivan County. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday to go in procession to the cemetery. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Carter County is mandating that all citizens who live in or visit Carter County wear masks in public. In keeping in accordance with this mandate, all visitors to the open visitation or to the graveside service are required to wear a mask or facial covering.
