A ribbon-cutting event was held for Legacy Studios in downtown Elizabethton on Wednesday.
The new business offers photography and videography services and is owned by Brandan Watts.
Watts, who is from the area, spoke during the event on the importance of downtown to him.
“The downtown area has always been special to me,” he said. “It just means a lot for me to be down here.”
Watts walked around blocks in search of a place, when he found that there was an opening in the Ritz Mini Mall. After being made an offer on the location, he set out to create his vision for the studio.
“Luckily I had a great support system and put it all together, so here we are,” he said.
Watts spoke on how there have previously been studios in downtown. He said his hope is to be a positive role model in the community.
The new business offers professional photography in fashion, model, headshots, boudoir, school, family, weddings, and engagements.
Watts spoke on how he knows not everyone has their own space, so the studio is available for rent to photographers and videographers to utilize with their own clients.
“I’m just trying to help everybody out,” he said. “A lot of people just think it’s this big competition, and you know we can all learn together and make things happen. Our only goal is to make people feel beautiful, and as long as we do that we are all successful.”
Watts is also the co-owner of Showcase MMA and the owner of Legacy Nightlife. Both businesses will also operate in this studio office space.
In furnishing the space, he used furniture from downtown merchants.
“I tried to use locals,” he explained.
He plans to switch decorations as the seasons change and holidays come and go in the studio.
