NASHVILLE (AP) — Tennessee has landed a $7 million federal grant to help build a rail connection in the state’s most economically disadvantaged county.
The state Department of Economic and Community Development says the Grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation will help construct nearly 6 miles (9 kilometers) of rail connecting the TennKen Railroad to the Port of Cates Landing and adjoining Lake County Industrial Park.
Once the industrial park is finished, the state hopes it will better position Northwest Tennessee for investments that require rail access.
Of the state’s 95 counties, Lake County and 10 others meet the criteria for the economically distressed designation.
