There are several main reasons Rep. John Holsclaw Jr. originally decided to run for office.
“The main reason that I ran for this office was to first ensure that our voice (East Tennessee) was heard and respected in Nashville,” he began. “Secondly,  to ensure the values of our parents were maintained so that our children could have the same solid core values to raise their children. Lastly, I wanted to try to promote this area for potential industrial growth so that our children could have good paying jobs.”
The Republican Representative for District 4, was born in Elizabethton and has established roots in the area. He graduated from East Tennessee State Univeristy with a degree in engineering. Holsclaw, who is married with five daughters, is currently incumbent. If elected this will be his fourth term in office. He originally assumed the office in 2014.
Holsclaw described his greatest accomplishments in office. He said the first bill that he passed as a representative was the lifetime carry permit.
“I’m pro gun, pro life, pro religion, pro veterans and pro public education,” he explained.
He describes his most significant bill as the Hands Free Law.
“This bill affects anyone who lives or travels through the great state of Tennesse,” he said. “This bill will definitely save lives and it’s awesome to know that you can do something that can save someone’s life.”
Holsclaw said the main reason people should vote for him revolves around his ability to listen and be a voice.
“I truly listen to the people in my district and take that to Nashville and represent them in actions, votes and bills,” he said.
In addition to his role in office, Holsclaw is a small business owner. He owns Jeweler’s Bench located in Elizabethton.
Holsclaw’s community involvement includes the following: House member of the 109th through 111th General Assemblies, National Rifle Association, Carter County Republican Party, Unicoi Kiwanis Club, Elizabethton Chamber of Commerce. Erwin Chamber of Commerce, Member, Carter County Hunting and Fishing Club and Director of Engineer for 40 Million Company.
Holsclaw concluded by describing how much he loves this area and all it has to offer.
“I love East Tennessee and the people who live here,” he said. “ I really believe that we live in one of the greatest areas in the nation. We have low crime, Bible Belt, four seasons, sports activities and awesome views.”
