Adelbert Winfield Gardner, 63, Elizabethton, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, October 27, 2020, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Elmer and Hattie Barnett Gardner.
Adelbert served in the United States Army. He witnessed incredible changes to his world, at a young age, due to a life changing disability. He never let his disability stop him or bring him down. You could always see him walking around town. When he got ready to go home, he would walk across the Elk Avenue Bridge or on Highway 19E. He was always laughing, joking and would have a big smile on his face. He never met a stranger.
Adelbert loved to watch Westerns. He loved his family most of all, especially his mother. He will be dearly missed.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Adonja Gardner, and two sisters, Christine Waldrop and Alice Glass.
Survivors include his sisters, Kitty Pierce, of the home, Katie (Mike) Kiser, Vera Holsclaw and Vada Gardner, all of Elizabethton; his brothers, his twin brother Albert Gardner, Charles (Lucille) Gardner and Robert Gardner, Kemah, Texas; his brother-in-law, David Waldrop; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins; and very special friends, Julie and Toby.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to Memorial Funeral Chapel for final expenses. Condolences may be sent to the family at our website at www.memorialfcelizabethton.com.
Memorial Funeral Chapel is serving the Gardner family.
