With a decided size advantage inside Ross Robinson Middle School’s points in the paint proved too much for T.A. Dugger to overcome on Wednesday evening as the Redskins toppled the Junior Cyclones 44-14.
The Cyclones shot poorly on this day – mostly due to the defensive presence of 6’4” post Connor Godsey – and when asked if his team struggled offensively because of Robinson’s size inside Cyclones head coach Barry Johnson said, “We sure did. We settled down and made better shots in the second half and I’m proud of them for that. We competed even though we weren’t scoring. We had the heart and we didn’t give up.”
Robinson opened a 14-7 lead after one period was in the books as the Cyclones (2-2) made just three of 11 shots in the stanza while Godsey scored six of his game-high 12 points in the first quarter.
Things went from bad to worse unfortunately for TAD as the Cyclones scored just one point in the second period on a free throw from guard Andrew Barnett as Ross Robinson took a 22-8 halftime advantage.
The Redskins knocked down a pair of trey’s in the third period – one each from Cam Hayworth and Jaylen Thomas – the smallest player on the court – and opened a 32-12 lead going into the fourth quarter.
For the game, Hayworth scored nine points on three treys with Thomas and 6’4” Major Dawson each adding seven to the Robinson ledger. Barnett and Jeriah Griffin each scored four points for TAD with Jaden Wallen, Ben Adams, and Brayden Buckles each scoring two points.

The JV Cyclones fared a little better in the opening contest than the varsity would in the next game but still struggled against a bigger team in the paint.
Baker Carroll scored a game-high 18 points with Tyree Thomas adding 14 for the Redskins with most of their shots coming off offensive rebounds or layups.
Robinson opened a 23-10 halftime lead but the Cyclones (1-3) rallied in the third period shaving five points off that lead with Justin Whitehead scoring five of his six points in the period as TAD cut the lead to a manageable 27-19 by the end of the period.
Jackson Buckles opened the fourth period with a bucket to make it a 27-21 contest but Carroll went to work inside for Robinson scoring the next 10 points before Buckles connected on a deuce for TAD to give the Redskins a 39-23 lead.
Buckles led TAD with nine points with Whitehead adding six.
