Hazel Bernice VanHuss Marion, 92, of Maryville, Tenn., formerly of Elizabethton, passed away Wednesday, December 30, 2020, at Blount Memorial Hospital.
A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Brown and Eliza Garrison VanHuss. She had lived with her son in Maryville for the past four years.
Hazel was a graduate of Elizabethton High School. She was retired from Great Lakes Research Corporation. Prior to that she worked at North American Rayon Corporation. She was a member of West Side Christian Church, Elizabethton.
Hazel was an avid sports fan, especially basketball and baseball.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Raleigh Marion Sr., who passed away July 29, 2001; a daughter, Teresa Gail Wilson, who passed away October 26, 1989; and her siblings, Florence Blevins, Infant Mary Belle VanHuss, John VanHuss, Ford VanHuss, Margaret Doherty, Haskiel “Hack” VanHuss and Harold Daniel VanHuss.
Survivors include her son, James Raleigh Marion Jr. and wife Wendi; her son-in-law, Dr. Eddy Wilson; two granddaughters, Heather Marion Slagle and husband Greg, Maryville, and Regan Marion, Maryville; one grandson, Joshua Marion and wife Candace, Maryville; her great-granddaughter, Mila Baskin; her brother, K.S. “Dick” VanHuss, Elizabethton; and several nieces and nephews.
The graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 3, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Dr. Eddy Wilson officiating. Interment will follow the service. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 1:20 p.m. Sunday to go to the cemetery.
