Betty Jean Murray Merritt, 90, Elizabethton, passed away Friday, January 1, 2021, at Hillview Health Center.
A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Andrew and Eva Pierce Murray.
Betty was a graduate of Elizabethton High School and attended Steed College. She retired as a secretary from West Minister School in Atlanta, Ga. Prior to that she was employed at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., and Milligan College and Immanuel School of Religion. She returned to Elizabethton in 2000. She loved to read and sew.
Betty was an active member of First Christian Church, Elizabethton.
Survivors include three daughters, two grandsons, one brother and several nieces and nephews.
It was her wish to be cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
Memorial Funeral Chapel is serving the Merritt family.
