Local football players selected to Tennessee Coaches All-State team

Even though the local prep football season has come to an end, Carter County athletes continue to be recognized for their efforts during the 2020 football season as the Tennessee Coaches All-State team was recently announced.

In Division 1 Class 1A, Cloudland’s Eli Presswood was selected for the offensive line. Presswood, a senior, was recognized as the Offensive and Defensive Lineman of the Year in Region 1A and closed out a stellar career as a Highlander helping to lead his team deep in the playoffs this season.

Also from Class 1A, Unaka’s Devin Ramsey made the team as an athlete. Ramsey was also recently selected to the Tennessee Sports Writer’s Association team as a wide receiver.

He helped the Rangers finish second in Region 1A and play their first playoff game at home in several years.

In Division 1 Class 2A, Happy Valley senior running back Matthew Bahn was named to the team. Bahn closed out his season by leading the Warriors offensively as Happy Valley made the playoffs.

Hampton’s Conor Jones not only was instrumental in leading the Bulldogs from the quarterback position but he also was a leader on the defensive side of the football as he was selected as a defensive back to the team.

The Bulldogs made it deep in the playoffs losing to Meigs County on the road.

In Class 4A, five members of the back-to-back Division 1 Class 4A state champion Elizabethton Cyclones were named to the TCAS team.

On offense, junior quarterback Bryson Rollins was named to the team after helping the Cyclones win their second consecutive title, being named to the TSWA All-State Team, and finishing as runner-up in the Tennessee Titans Mr. Football for 2020 which was Rollins second appearance at the awards.

Senior Parker Hughes, who was one of Rollins’ top targets in 2020, was selected at the wide receiver slot. Hughes, who was also named to the TSWA All-State team, finished the season with over 1,200 yards in receiving and was named the Class 4A Tennessee Titan Mr. Football for 2020.

Elizabethton offensive lineman Cole Morganstern who recently committed to the Air Force Academy and also named to the TSWA All-State team was named as an offensive lineman on the TCAS team.

On the defensive side of the football, junior defensive lineman Trenton Taylor was named to the team. Taylor, who anchored the Cyclones defensive line, added this to his TSWA All-State nod for 2020.

Finally, linebacker Deuce Morton was recognized as one of four linebackers selected to the TCAS team. Morton was a defensive leader for the Cyclones for the last two seasons and also earned All-State honors from the Tennessee Sports Writers Association.
