Presenting the 2021 STAR Calendar Girls

For 63 years the Elizabethton STAR has annually named 12 young ladies to its roster of calendar girls and it all started in 1958 with the selection of Sonja Young (now Sams) to represent January.
The newspaper has made its selection of Calendar Girls for 2021, and they are being unveiled in today’s edition of the newspaper.
The girls are selected based on their academic performance and school involvement.
This year’s calendar girls include:
KALEY “MADISON” RICE is Miss January. She is a senior at Unaka High School and the daughter of Margaret Simerly and Eric Rice.
Madison is a member of the Girls Basketball team at Unaka High, the Beta Club, the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and serves as secretary of the school student council.
CAGNEY BENNETT, chosen as Miss February, is an eleventh grader at Elizabethton High School. She is the daughter of Randall and Jancey Bennett.
Cagney is a varsity cheerleader, is a Watts Showcase Dancer, a member of the Elizabethton High Student Government Association, Key Club, ‘Clone Club, National Honor Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and has participated in a number of community and school pageants.
Cagney is a member of First United Methodist Church Youth Group and enjoys spending time with family and friends.
She is also a member of the Elizabethton Chamber of Commerce Youth Ambassadors Program.
HEAVEN CARAWAY was chosen as Miss March in the STAR Calendar Girls. She is a senior at Cloudland High School and is the daughter of Angel Arnold and Richie Caraway.
Heaven, who describes herself as a “hard worker,” plays softball and basketball and enjoys hiking.
EMILY MILLER, who is Miss April in the STAR Calendar Girls, is the daughter of Bronson Miller and Erin Miller. She is a senior at Johnson County High School.
Emily is a member of the National Honor Society and is a cheerleader and plays basketball and softball. She enjoys hanging out with friends when not at school.
LUCY MAUPIN, Miss May in the STAR Calendar Girls, is an eleventh grader at Elizabethton High School.
She is the daughter of Greg and Caytie Maupin.
Lucy is a varsity cheerleader, a member of the EHS Student Government Association, Key Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the National Honor Society.
She is also a member of Valley Forge Free Will Baptist Church Youth Group and the Elizabethton Chamber of Commerce Youth Ambassadors Program. 
Lucy enjoys spending time with friends and baby sitting.
OLIVIA ABSHER is Miss June in the STAR Calendar Girls. She is a senior at Happy Valley High School and the daughter of Larry and Holly Absher.
Olivia plays softball and basketball and enjoys spending time with family and friends.
ANSLIE PINKSTON, Miss July, is an eleventh grader at Happy Valley High School, where has a 4.0 grade point average.
She is the daughter of Cortnie Dalton and Josh Dalton.
Anslie is a cheerleader and a member of Watts Showcase Dancers.
She attends Oaks Grove Christian Church and enjoys being with her friends.
MARLEE HUGHES, Miss August, is a senior at Cloudland High School. She is the daughter of Israel Hughes and Heather Fields.
Marlee is a cheerleader, plays softball, and enjoys tumbling, and walking her fur babies.
ABBY LIPFORD was chosen as Miss September in the STAR Calendar Girls. She is a twelfth grader at Johnson County High School. Abby is the daughter of Craig and Cheri Lipford.
Abby is a member of the Girls Basketball Team and a member of the school National Honor Society and FFA.
She is a member of Dewey Christian Church, and enjoys hanging out with her friends.
ISABELLE BOWERS, Miss October, is an eleventh grader at Hampton High School. She is the daughter of Tracy and Keith Bowers.
Isabelle is a cheerleader and enjoys gymnastics. She is a member of the Hampton High Student Council, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the Beta Club, and HOSA.
She enjoys spending time with her friends.
ALLISON BOWERS joins her sister as a STAR Calendar Girl as Miss November. She is an eleventh grader at Hampton High School.
Allison is the daughter of Keith and Tracy Bowers. She, too, is a cheerleader and enjoys gymnastics. She is a member of the Hampton Student Council, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Beta Club, and HOSA. She, too, enjoys spending time with friends.
KAITLYN SHOUN, a senior at Unaka High School, was chosen as Miss December in the STAR Calendar Girls.
Kaitlyn is the daughter of Jennifer Hobbs and Michael Shoun.
She serves as vice president of the Unaka High Student Council, President of the Key Club, is a member of Beta Club, HOSA, the National Honor Society, Congress of Future Medical Leaders, and the Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America.
She is also a cheerleader.
