The T.A. Dugger Jr. Lady Cyclones were looking to continue their season and advance in Monday’s sectionals played at Sevier Middle in Kingsport.

Unfortunately, the Jr. Lady Cyclones hit a roadblock in the form of Heritage Middle School who managed to do two points better by the time the final horn sounded to bring a conclusion to T.A. Dugger’s season, 32-30.

Normally a very good scoring team, the Jr. Lady Cyclones struggled to get the offensive juices going late in the game after building a 14-11 halftime advantage.

Peyton McGee, Andrea Flores, and Aubrey Cole all connected on a trey to lead the Jr. Lady Cyclones in the opening half. Michelle Shields and Kayelyn Nave contributed two points each and Jamira Smalls hit 1-of-2 free throws.

Coming out of the break, Heritage was able to shave two points off the Jr. Lady Cyclone lead to set the stage for a dramatic finish down the stretch of the final six minutes of play.

When it counted the most, it was Heritage that was able to put it together in the final period of play outscoring TAD 11-8 to bring a successful season to a close for the ladies from ‘Betsy.

McGee was the only Jr. Lady Cyclone to reach double figures with 12 points all coming from beyond the three-point arc.

Nave and Flores finished the night with six points apiece while Cole recorded three points.

Shields added a deuce and Smalls finished with one point.
