The Unaka Rangers have played Sullivan North three times in the
2020-21 season, they lost 60-58, 61-58, and Tuesday night in the
consolation game of the District 51-48.
So you can say the Raiders are simply a two to a three-point better
team than this year’s Rangers.
Will Sexton turned in another fine performance tossing in 25 points
including four long-range shots.
Devin Ramsey keyed in on two threes in the opening quarter to give
the Rangers a 13-9 lead.
Sexton hit two threes and Landon Ramsey went five of six from the
charity stripe and Unaka would hold a slim two-point lead at halftime
26-24.
A 19-point third-quarter gave the Golden Raiders the lead by the end
of three 43-34.
The Raiders led by as many as ten before Unaka would start clipping
away.
With three minutes left to play Unaka was within four, 44-40.
Near the two-minute mark, the Rangers would only trail by one,
44-43.
The scoreboard read 49-48 with 11 seconds to play and Unaka was
forced to foul a couple of times before sending North to the line for
the one and one.
Bryant Herron connected on both shots, while Sexton’s 35-footer at
the buzzer fell short.
To go with Sexton’s 25, Landon Ramsey went 7 of 8 from the line, Joe-z
Blamo also scored 7.
Bryson Vance led North with 15, C.J. Mardis finished with 14.
Both Mardis and Vance made the All-Tournament team while Sexton
was selected from Unaka.
