Lady ‘Landers secure spot opposite Lady Huskies for the region title

As if three contests weren’t enough this season, the Cloudland Lady Highlanders and North Greene Lady Huskies will make it number four on Wednesday night with a lot at stake.
The first thing at stake is a region championship and the second thing is a home sectional game on Saturday night as Cloudland took care of business with a 58-46 win over Cosby on the road Monday night while the Lady Huskies eliminated Unaka in Baileyton 71-44.
After a low-scoring first half that saw the Lady Highlanders take a 23-17 lead to the break, Cloudland broke the game wide open in the second half to secure the win.
Jasmine Birchfield set the tone in the first half for Coach Matt Birchfield’s team as the senior pumped in 10 points to push her team out front.
Mandy Benfield lent a big hand knocking down six points as well for Cloudland while Gracie Freeman sank a trey. Karah Fields and Ella Benfield got into the scoring column with two points each.
Brayln McGaha did all she could do to keep the Lady Eagles in contention as she scored 12 of the 17 points for Cosby in the first half. Leia Groat added three points while Lauren Ford added two points.
The second half proved to be more offensive-minded for both teams as Cloudland outscored the Lady Eagles 35- 29 in the final 16 minutes to take the win.
Jasmine Birchfield continued to have a hot hand with 11 points in the second half to finish with a game-high 21 points for the Lady ‘Landers.
Mandy Benfield also was solid adding nine points in the final half to finish with 15 points.
Only four Lady Eagles scored in the contest led by McGaha with a team-high 18 points. Gracie Myers had a big second half to finish with 15 points.
The Lady Highlanders and Lady Huskies will tip-off at 7 pm in Baileyton on Wednesday evening.
