In close coordination with Rangers Keith Kelley and Chad Ingle of Watauga Ranger District, Back Country Horsemen of East Tennessee coordinated a long awaited repair to the surface of the parking lot caused by persons driving circles (doughnuts) on the loose gravel. The repairs were supported with material from Shoun Lumber Co. of Butler, Plumbers Hardware of Roan Mountain, and Heavy Equipment from Beam Construction of Elk Park, N.C. Additional support was provided by citizens of Roan Mountain/Elizabethton and other surrounding communities. This parking lot is but one of several ongoing projects undertaken over the past five years between BCHET and Watauga Ranger District which provide immediate Trailhead access to a wide range of wholesome outdoor activities in our beautiful mountain area. Repairs and improvements to the surface of the parking lot were made on March 6 by a BCHET work crew of Larry Grindstaff, Karen and Tom Isaacs, Mike Beard, Ralph McKinney, Larry Jeffers, Ron Rice and Russell Sutton. Directions to the parking lot can be found on the BCHET website.
