The Mighty Seven of the Elizabethton Cyclones faced off against Dobyns-Bennet at the Kingsport Aquatic Center.

The impressive competition pushed the Cyclones to multiple personal best times and one State qualifying time.

Freshman Kody Broussard cut more than 10 seconds from his previous best to swim his 500 Freestyle in a State qualifying time of 5:35.45. Olivia Markley also cut a significant 11.31 seconds in her 500 Freestyle for a personal best time of 7:00.13.

The 100 Freestyle proved to be the event of the night for most of the Cyclones with junior Taylor McDougall cutting 2.20 seconds for a new personal best time of 1:10.89, junior Elijah Smith shaving .43 seconds for a time of 55.43, and freshman RJ Brewer cutting 1.32 seconds for a new personal best of 1:07.21.

Smith also shaved .23 seconds from his 50 Freestyle to win the event with a time of 24.32. The Cyclones women placed second in both of their relays with a new season-best time in the 200 Freestyle Relay of 2:05.81.

The Cyclones will next host Morristown East and West at the EHS pool on Thursday, March 25th at 6:00 pm.

Fans will be able to watch via live stream on the NFHS Network.

The Tennessee Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association (TISCA) has decided to operate the State Championship at four separate locations this year in order to abide by Covid-19 regulations.

Elizabethton lies in the region that will compete at the Kingsport Aquatic Center.

Broussard’s 500 Freestyle State Championship swim will take place at the Kingsport Aquatic Center on Saturday, April 24th.
