Whenever the former Peebles location announced they were closing their doors, many local shoppers were wondering what would become of the empty shopping location that once housed the retailer.

It didn’t take long for another suitor to step forward to occupy the building and even though it wasn’t a new business to the community, it was one that many have been frequent visitors of.

Burke Outlet which has been located next door to the Dollar Tree for the last 15 years will be moving into the location with a soft opening scheduled for April 5, 2021, and formally opening its doors with a ribbon-cutting on Thursday, April 8 at 8:45 am as the Elizabethton/Carter County Chamber of Commerce will be hosting the ribbon-cutting to welcome Burke’s Outlet to their new store location.

With a limited amount of space at their former location, Store Manager Jessica Feathers said the move will be beneficial to all the Outlet’s current and new customers as the business had outgrown its former location over the last 15 years.

“It will give us more space that will allow us to offer more merchandise to our customers,” Feathers said about the new location.

According to a press release, Burkes Outlet offers name-brand clothing, accessories, home décor, beauty, and much more for up to 70% off. The store carries a variety of styles and sizes, so there is something for everyone. With new arrivals weekly, you are sure to find exactly what you are looking for!

The move also has allowed for the retailer to offer some new job opportunities to the local economy.

“We have added 15 new employees with our move,” Feathers shared. “We are pretty much full with the employees that we have now but are still looking to fill supervisor positions.”

Karen Flips, a spokesperson for Burkes/Bealls Outlets described the atmosphere that customers can expect when entering Burke’s Outlet.

“We are a guest-centric, family-focused, off-price retailer with a commitment to deliver exceptional value,” Flips said in a press release. “Our ever-changing offering creates that “treasure hunt” shopping experience that our guests love.

“With new products arriving every week, each store is unique and has something different to offer. That is why when you see something you love, you have to grab it fast.”

Feathers said there will be some special fun on the day of the ribbon-cutting.

“We are going to have a prize wheel,” Feathers said. “Also, we will be doing a tag hunt for gift cards.”

Elizabethton/Carter County Chamber Director Joy McCray said that the Chamber is excited to see Burke’s Outlet grow in the community.

“They’ve been offering great deals on clothing and home goods to Carter County for several years and are looking forward to seeing them in their new space,” McCray stated.

The new location is in Ingle’s Shopping Center at 730 W Elk Avenue.
