The Unaka Rangers stood at the top of the heap on Sunday as the Lady Rangers were crowned the 35th Annual Tiny Day Tournament champions in Greeneville going 4-0 to capture the title.

Noelle Collins was named the tournament MVP for head coach Kenneth Chambers Lady Rangers.

The following is a recap of the weekend tournament.

Chuckey-Doak….. 0
The Lady Rangers opened up the tournament in convincing fashion by downing the Lady Black Knights of Chuckey-Doak in a 12-0 shutout behind the complete-game pitching effort of Sadie Shoun.

With Shoun dominating from the circle with 12 strikeouts and no walks and allowing Chuckey-Doak only two hits in the contest, the Lady Rangers offense was clicking on all cylinders.

Lyndie Ramsey and Kylie Blevins led the attack with a 3-for-3 day at the plate as Ramsey rapped out a pair of doubles while Blevins added one.

Hailey Gilman and Noelle Collins collected a two-bagger apiece while Kendall Bare roped a triple and collected three RBIs.

Alana Parsons also collected a hit in the win.

West Greene…….. 0
Unaka’s bats stayed red hot in the second game of the tournament as West Greene had no answers with Unaka crushing the ball for 22 base hits in the game while Trinity Bowers was keeping the West Greene bats on ice in allowing only two hits in the game.

The Lady Rangers hung 17 runs on the board in the first inning and seven on the board in the second to take the two and a half-inning contest.

Lyndie Ramsey led the way offensively batting 4-for-4 to bring her two-game total to 7-for-7 including another double.

She wasn’t the only Lady Ranger swinging the hot bat as Hailey Gilman, Bowers, and Sadie Shoun had a perfect game at the plate batting 3-for-3. Alana Parsons, Noelle Collins, Kailey Wilson, and Kylie Blevins each added two base hits in the 22-hit attack.

Kendall Bare added one as each Lady Ranger who got an official at-bat collected at least one hit.

Bowers collected four strikeouts in the shortened game.

The Lady Rangers took on a tough Class AA team in the Unicoi County Lady Blue Devils and the two laid it all on the line for seven innings as Unaka managed to withstand a seventh-inning rally from the Lady Blue Devils to take the win.

Unaka took a 2-0 lead after one complete as Sadie Shoun led off with a single and courtesy runner Hailey Taylor was advanced to third on a Trinity Bowers double.

An Alana Parsons sacrifice fly plated Taylor with Bowers advancing to third base. Lyndie Ramsey came through with two outs with an RBI single to center field to score Alisha Harrell who came in as a courtesy runner for Bowers.

Unicoi County scored a solo run in the top of the second and fourth inning to even the contest before the Lady Rangers scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Noelle Collins opened the inning with a single with Jill Faust coming in as a pinch-runner for Collins. Kendall Bare laced a single to left field advancing Faust to second.

A fielder’s choice off the bat of Ramsey retired Harrell with Faust scampering to third base.

A second consecutive fielder’s choice from Hailey Gilman scored Faust and advanced Ramsey to third base making it a 3-2 contest.

Kailey Wilson laid down a bunt that allowed Ramsey to score making it a 4-2 game. Gilman stole home to give the Lady Rangers a three-run lead, 5-2, heading to the top of the seventh inning.

After getting two quick outs, the Lady Blue Devils made it interesting as a single by Rachel Hatcher and a two-run homer by Leah Edney made it a 5-4 contest.

The game ended on a fly ball out by Betsabe Chavez.

Shoun picked up the win on the mound as she went the distance.

South Greene… 0
The Lady Rangers sealed the championship with their third shutout of the tournament as Unaka took down South Greene 4-0 to capture the title.

Kailey Wilson picked up the victory from the pitching circle as the hurler allowed no runs on six hits while striking out two Lady Rebel batters.

Unaka took the early lead 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning as Trinity Bowers reached on an error and after the second out of the inning, Noelle Collins drew a walk to push Bowers to second base.

A Kendall Bare double to left field allowed Bowers to score to make it 1-0 at the end of the first inning.

The Lady Rangers put the game on ice in the bottom of the third when they scored all the runs they would need to take the victory.

Bowers led off with a single and was followed by an Alana Parsons single as well. Collins put the exclamation point on the score when she crushed a three-run round-tripper to left field to make it 4-0 and from there the Lady Rangers cruised as Wilson threw the strikes and her defense played behind her for the win.

Bare and Wilson had two hits apiece in the win while Sadie Shoun, Bowers, Parsons, Collins, and Kylie Blevins added one base hit apiece in the nine-hit Lady Ranger offensive attack.
