Deputies of the Carter County Sheriff’s Office arrested a fugitive from justice after a foot pursuit in the Toll Branch community Thursday.

The pursuit began when deputies went to a residence on Dewey Dugger Road to serve an arrest warrant for 48-year-old Randal Lee Street. Street fled into the woods behind the home. During the pursuit, Street threw a backpack on the ground that deputies recovered.

Street fled to the home of an off-duty deputy and knocked on the front door. He then stated to the off-duty deputy that he was being pursued and wanted to turn himself in. On-duty deputies then caught up to him and took Street into custody.

The backpack Street threw on the ground was searched, and deputies found a firearm, ammunition and a wallet containing a credit card with Street’s name on it. Due to Street’s previous conviction of a felony, he was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm. He was also charged with resisting arrest and fugitive from justice for a crime in another state.

Street is being held in the Carter County Detention Center. He has no bond, due to an extradition request from South Carolina.
