It’s that time of the year, the point in the season where the players in their final season with their respective squads are introduced for the final time at home during the regular season.

Senior night is the occasion being talked about of course, and Tuesday night it was time for the Elizabethton Baseball club to play their final home game of the regular season at Joe O’Brien Field inside of Northeast Community Credit Union Ballpark.

But this time it would be different from many other senior night festivities across the area, as the weather showed no favor to the team during the hours leading up to the Cyclones’ contest against University High.

With conditions on the field becoming more and more of a liability, the game was forced to be canceled. But that did not stop the Cyclone faithful from showing up to support their senior baseball players, as each senior would still be recognized in a short, meaningful ceremony.

As fans watched, each senior baseball player would be greeted by their coaches, followed by a short public address read about the player, their lessons learned and their goals, and finally a gift bag and a framed jersey for each player that would be graduating in the coming weeks.

It was a time of many mixed emotions, as some were excited, some were sad, and some were even upset that there would be no game to follow the festivities. But one thing stayed true, that this would be a night that these senior baseball players would not soon forget.

Even though the Cyclones’ regular season did not end the way they hoped, Elizabethton has still clinched the regular-season conference title as well as a home-field advantage and the number one seed in the Three Rivers Conference tournament.

With their first contest of the tournament slated for 6 pm on Friday, fans are encouraged to show up and show out at Northeast Community Credit Union Ballpark as Betsy Baseball looks to make a deep run in this tournament and even further.
