Rhoda McKinney, a life-long resident of Hampton, celebrated her 90th birthday June 5.
Mrs. McKinney lives in the house where she was born – an old store building on Brown’s Branch. She is the daughter of the late A.J. “Coon” Miller and Mamie Teague Miller.
“I was a “store brat,” she said.
She was married to Bill McKinney and has four children – Foster Miller and Ford Townsend, both of whom are deceased, and Johnny McKinney and Norma Rosalee McKinney. She also has five grandchildren.
Mrs. McKinney formerly worked at Gurney’s in Hampton and the Hi-Cliff Truck Stop. “I remember those Gurney Burgers well, made many of them,” she said this week as she reminisced about her working days.
