Carter County Drug Prevention and partners hosting summer events

2020 created a loss of activity for many Carter County residents and Carter County Drug Prevention is working to make up for lost time with a variety of summer events and activities for all ages.

“In our new South Hills location, we have an amazing space and opportunities to provide fun and educational activities,” said Jilian Reece, Carter County Drug Prevention Director.

“We also have amazing community partners who are willing to work with us and provide activities we would be unable to provide alone.”

Youth programs are open to all ages, do not require sign-up unless otherwise noted and include:

June 29th 1pm Stranger Danger Class with Major Dan Bowman of the Carter County Sheriff’s Department
June 30th 1pm-6pm 1pm-6pm Safe Sitter Class (must sign up via Eventbrite)
July 6th 2pm-3pm Science & Art Camp: Sunscreen Printing with Shannon Payne of PEAK Mentorship Program
July 12th 2pm-3pm Charcoal Grilling Basics – come learn the basics of grilling with charcoal with Emily Barton and Mr. Wayne from UT Extension of Carter County
July 13th 2pm-3pm Science Camp: DIY Marble Run with Shannon Payne of PEAK Mentorship Program
July 14th 2pm-3pm Art Camp: Drawing with Nash Acuna of Elizabethton Arts & Cultural Alliance
July 20th 2pm-3pm Art Camp: Canvas Painting with Emily Barton from UT Extension of Carter County
July 21st 2pm-3pm Art Camp: Nature Art with Nash Acuna of Elizabethton Arts & Cultural Alliance
July 23rd 2pm-4pm Backyard Bible Camp with Calvary Baptist Church
July 27th 1pm-6pm Safe Sitter Class (must sign up via Eventbrite)
July 30th 6pm-10pm Community Block Party: inflatables, dinner, movie, resources & more!
For adults, programs include:

Mom Power: Ten week parenting program on Wednesdays in partnership with Families Free and Calvary Baptist Church. (must sign up by calling Angie at (423) 914-7609)
One Day at a Time Narcotics Anonymous meetings: Wednesdays at 8pm and Saturdays at 12:15pm
Crystal Meth Anonymous meetings: Sundays at 6pm
