Heather Grindstaff recipient of GFWC’s annual Jo Voigt Memorial Scholarship

The GFWC of Tennessee Elizabethton Woman’s Club presented the annual Jo Voigt Memorial Scholarship to Heather Grindstaff from Hampton High School. This scholarship is being renamed in memory of an outstanding club member who lost her fight with coronavirus in December 2020.
Miss Grindstaff was active in many activities at her school. She participated in Battle of the Build, the National Honor Society of High School Scholars, National Honor Society, Pep Club, the Solar Go-Kart race, Student Council, Skills USA, Technology Student Association, Upward Bound, and Yearbook. She was Hampton High School’s Technology Student Association Vice President during her junior year and presided during her senior year. She was the team captain for the Carter County Battle of the Build team.
During her time at Hampton she was able to win two regional championships and one state championship in Skills USA and Technology Student Association and two first place trophies in the Battle of the Build. She also participated in many community service projects in Carter County. Miss Grindstaff received several scholarships and awards at the Senior Academic Awards Ceremony.
Miss Grindstaff will be attending The University of Tennessee-Knoxville, pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, and then hopes to continue her education at UTK’s School of Law for a career in Intellectual Property Law. Based on a GPA of 4.0 at Hampton High she should meet her goals at her studies.
