The Elizabethton Parks and Recreation Department teamed up with Grace Baptist Church of Elizabethton and a church youth group from the First Baptist Church of Gatlinburg as a Friends of the Parks Service Day at City Hall and at the Covered Bridge Park was conducted.
This latest round of service projects focused on the landscaping of Elizabethton’s City Hall and several other maintenance projects at the City Park. Youth from the First Baptist Church of Gatlinburg, who were in town participating in the summer FUGE camp at Milligan College, spent hours mulching landscape beds, pulling weeds and removing trash and other debris from the park located along the Doe River. Camp members spent a considerable amount of time giving back to the community by providing volunteer services throughout Carter County and Elizabethton.
In addition to this service project, members of Elizabethton’s Grace Baptist Church participated in a landscape project at the Covered Bridge Park. Members planted several shrubs and mulched around the stage area at the park and volunteers painted the fencing at the front entrance of the Covered Bridge. The Department has scheduled two additional service days with Grace Baptist, which will address a landscaping beautification project at Douglas and Kiwanis Parks.
“We are so grateful and thankful for all the volunteers that participated in these service day projects,” said Mike Mains, Parks and Recreation Director. “Their willingness to make a difference in our community that will impact the lives of our citizens is amazing to see. We cannot thank them enough for their hard work and for this unique ministry.”
